Bachelor's thesis on mental health
The world counts 8 billion people. Each one is different, with its own story. However, differences are not always visible or easy to understand.
In our society mental health is still a taboo. The only way we have to fight stigma is by trying to understand other people by getting in their shoes, through empathy.
The following project work is based on empathy.
The challenge was identified through a bottom-up approach. For the design phase, methodologies such as Project Cycle Management and Human Centred Design were used.
This phase was divided in three parts: raw, desk and qualitative research. I consulted official reports, manuals, case studies and best practices. I also did some interviews and partecipated to thematic workshops in order to ideate a concrete challenge.
How might we reduce the stigma on mental health, starting from teens, through a service that fosters inclusion and awareness, but at the same time act as a preventive tool which can generate a positive impact on the society and the economy?
A format composed of a round of meetings for high school students to raise awareness, inform and prevent about mental health.
It is designed to adapt to any school context, thanks to its cyclic, codesigned and participatory structure.
Each year, through a co-design table, the topics to be covered are decided and the activities are planned, through the following process and stakeholders:
One day a year, each class carries out the activities proposed, according to the format below:
Introduction of the project theme of the day and doing of some activities for breaking the ice.
Sensory activities to live in first person some aspects of the mental health theme.
Reflections on the activity carried out and talks and testimonies on the subject.
At the end of the ritual, there will be a restitution of the project thanks to these activities:
1. Interactive feedback collection
2. Impact report
3. Instagram page
4. In-depth meetings
To understand the feasibility of the project, I drafted a strategic analysis. I worked on the stakeholder, the economic sustainability and the impact, highlighting how the project will break down the stigma.
This part will be implemented thanks to a deepen research with experts in the field.
Sometimes we forget that the world we live in is not the same for everyone.
